Barbara' s Story

I had to get away from an abusive relationship. I took my two daughters and moved to another state to live with my grandmother. When my grandmother unexpectedly died, I was unable to keep up with the rent, and it was impossible to find an affordable place to live. My daughters and I slept in my car for several months until it was repossessed.

I couch-hopped between friends for more several more months. Stress and hopelessness led me to begin drinking and doing drugs. One friend eventually gave me an ultimatum: come to church with her, or she would no longer be able to allow me, and my daughters stay at her place.

The women I met through Palm Trees and Cedars welcomed and supported me. I started to trust God. I was able to quit using drugs and later stopped drinking. I got involved in church activities. “I didn’t just find a place of support; I found community. My children are finally safe, and I am learning to hope again.”

Your support helps more moms like Barbara

My name is Juanita. Today, my son and I are doing well, and we have moved beyond poverty. We have ended the cycle of abuse and instability that affected my mother, grandmother, aunts, and others in my family for generations.

With the help received from Palm Trees and Cedars, I am now able to give back to my community. I see positive changes growing as people like me share our stories and connect with others. You might even know someone with a story like ours.

Your support can help others who are where we once were.
